COMMON THYME
This medicinal plant, also known as THYMUS VULGARIS; it has powerful active substances such as bitter principles, tannin,flavonoïde , resin, minerals.
1-Botanical Name.
The botanical name of this medicinal plant is: THYMUS VULGARIS
2-Synonyms.
Botanists also call it Barigoule, Garden thyme.
3-Flowering And Harvest Periods.
Its flowering period is limited to the leaves between June and September, its harvest period concerns the flowers between May and August.
4-Active Substances.
Minerals, linalool, borneol, flavonoïde , resin, bitter principle, tannin, carvacrol, thymol and essential oil.
5-The Used Parts.
The Leaves, the flowers and the tops of the flower stems.
6-Medicinal Property.
For internal use: Thyme is. expectorant and sedative. It is used in cases of gastric spasms of nervous origin, anemia, pancreatic disorders, whooping cough, bronchitis, painful periods and rheumatism.
For external use: thyme is applied as a gargle and as an ointment against scabies and purulent and ulcerative wounds.
7-How To Use?
— To activate digestion: take 2 glasses per day, after each meal, an infusion of 20 g of thyme for one liter of boiling water, infuse for 15 minutes.
— To dispel the flu: take 3 glasses per day of an infusion of 20 g of thyme poured with boiling water, let it infuse for 10 minutes.
— Mouthwash against bad breath: make a decoction with 30 g of thyme for one liter of water, boil for 5 minutes, then filter.
— Insufficient periods: take 2 glasses per day, one week before the expected date of the period, of an infusion of 20 g for one liter of boiling water, infuse for 10 minutes.
— Bronchitis and cough: drink a tablespoon of boiled thyme after eating at a rate of 200 grams of the plant per liter of water and boil for 10 minutes.
