THE INTESTINAL PHASE
The intestinal or the duodenal phase marks the end of the gastric phase and the beginning of subsequent secretions.
1-Duodenal Phase.
In the initial part of the intestine, called the duodenum phase , we observe a building up and delivering the secretory stimulating components in exactly the same way as in the antral stage.
2-Inhibitory Factors.
The initial intestinal part can be victim environment of harmful factors like fats, sugary solutions, and baking soda. These agents can inhibit or at least reduce duodenal juices, HCL and pepsin.
If we inject HCL In the rest of the small intestine, it certainly will exceed the limit of acid concentration, causing the stop of its secretion. The amounts of acid injection required to substantially suppress HCL secretion, however, are very high and appear to exceed the levels found in a healthy human stomach.
3-Role Of Secretin.
Secretin is a duodenal hormone. The amount of its secretion released under physiological circumstances is sufficient to increase biliary and pancreatic secretion. Secretin primarily prevents gastrin stimulation and, to a lesser extent, vagus nerve stimulation.
